Giant Eagle Issues Recall For Holiday Candies

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's a new consumer alert for those that brought holiday candy at Giant Eagle.

The grocery store has issued a recall for Candy Place Chocolate Santas packages.

According to the FDA, there's an undeclared peanut allergen in the candy.

Officials say the candies reference "peanut butter" on the packaging, but peanuts are not listed as an ingredient on the primary package label.

No illnesses have been reported.

The recalled products were sold in 11-ounce packages with the UPC code 3003407341.

It was sold starting on Oct. 1 in Giant Eagles in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland.

The products can be returned to any Giant Eagle for a refund.

Consumers with questions can contact the manufacturer, the George J. Howe Company, at 1-800-367-4693.

Meanwhile, Giant Eagle has pulled the product from their shelves and started their consumer recall telephone notification process.
