Giant Rubber Duck's Arrival Kicks Off Festival Of Firsts

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh is about to get a visit from a 40-foot-tall rubber duck.

The duck will sail to the Clemente Bridge for a Friday night party, kicking off the Pittsburgh Festival of Firsts, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

"We selected the 40-foot duck so we know that it gets under the Fort Duquesne Bridge and the West End Bridge," said the Cultural Trust's Paul Organisak at a Wednesday morning news conference.

The duck will dock at the Clemente Bridge.

"I've been working on this project for 12 years now," says Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman.

He says the thought behind it is, "that we are living on one planet, and all the waters of the world become a global bathtub. It joins people together and makes people happy."

The inflatable artwork will later be moored at Point State Park. But where is it now?

"In a very undisclosed location," Paul Organisak replied.

We'll just have to wait until Friday.
