Former Congressman Frank Mascara Passes Away

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- Former United States Rep. Frank Mascara has died. He was 81.

Mascara, a Democrat, was elected to Congress in 1994, but lost his seat in 2003 after redistricting prompted a run against former Rep. John Murtha.

Mascara also served as Washington County controller and chairman of the Washington County board of commissioners.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; two sons, Frank of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Jon, of Belle Vernon; and a daughter, Karen Talbert, of Belle Vernon.

Just over a year ago, Mascara's son, Mark, who was a judge in Washington County died of cancer.

According to the website of the Carl J. Spallino Funeral Home, visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, and Friday, July 15. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi.
