1 Trapped In Fayette County Mine Collapse

LAKE LYNN, Pa. (KDKA) - One person is trapped after a mine collapse in Fayette County.

The mine collapse was reported at Laurel Aggregates near Point Marion on Springhill Furnace Road on Friday afternoon. The mine is near the border of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Crews have not yet gained access yet to the person who is trapped. Their condition is unknown. Sources tell KDKA-TV's Erika Stanish that at least one person is trapped.

"At this time, we are focused on responding to an emergency incident at our Lake Lynn, Pennsylvania aggregate facility. The safety of our employees is our number one priority. More information will be shared when appropriate," said a spokesperson for Arcosa, which owns the mine.

The spokesperson could not confirm how many people were involved.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection released a statement, saying in part:

"DEP is aware of a mine collapse with entrapment at Laurel Aggregates' Lake Lynn mine in Springhill Township, Fayette County. DEP and federal Mine Safety and Health Administration are responding to the situation. DEP's Bureau Mine Safety is onsite with additional personnel en route."

It was a very active scene when KDKA's Erika Stanish got to the mine. Fire, EMS and police were all called there.

The Red Cross has also been requested to provide mental health services and support to the scene.
