Family Seeks Answers After Man Found Dead In Fayette Co.

FARMINGTON (KDKA) - Police in Fayette County are investigating after a patient at a rehab center was found dead in a pond Sunday.

Family members said the center was supposed to be a safe place. Now, they want to know what happened.

Michael James Cameron, 21, was found dead Sunday morning in a pond at the rehab facility where he was receiving treatment for drug addiction.

Another patient found his body just before 8 a.m.

"At first, I didn't believe it. Then, it hit home. Then, it was why, how? I mean, I know something just couldn't happen like that. He's supposed to be in a safe place," Cameron's brother, Clinton Taylor, said.

Family said Cameron had been at Another Way Recovery Home in Farmington, Fayette County for almost two months. He was looking forward to next weekend, when he would get to spend nine hours off property with his family.

Taylor said his brother was optimistic about completing the program.

"I promised him he could come stay with me," Taylor said. "He knew what he had to live for. That's what I'm getting at."

Family members believe every move Cameron took was supposed to be monitored.

They said Cameron was allowed outside for only a short amount of time during the day. After 8 p.m., he and the other patients were basically locked in.

"I mean, somewhere it fell apart. Somewhere, when he went outside, someone didn't know, the door was unlocked. Something went wrong here. Where, how, why?" Taylor said.

State Police are waiting to release more information until the autopsy is completed Monday.

It could also take several weeks until the toxicology reports are complete.
