PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Members of a clean air group called "NextGen Climate PA" were meeting in Oakland Wednesday night, getting ready for a "LOVE TRUMPS HATE" rally in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
The peaceful rally will be held outside the David L Lawrence Convention Center. The protest is designed to coincide with Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump's appearance, where he'll give a keynote speech to a Marcellus Shale meeting.
Lindsay Patross, with a group called NextGen Climate PA said, "This is just designed to draw attention to the fact that Donald Trump has not supported the policies that benefit the health of people in western Pennsylvania and others in the country when it comes to environmental policies."
NextGen says Thursday's rally will feature speakers who think America should have an economy that works for everyone, not just the oil and gas companies.
Trump's return to Pittsburgh, and specifically the Convention Center, marks his first visit to the city since his appearance last April, when Pittsburgh Police were confronted with a much larger than anticipated protest demonstration outside the Convention Center.
At that time, protesters did their best to shout down Trump supporters, and they tried to keep his supporters from entering the hall.
Three anti-trump protesters were arrested in confrontations with police, and at least four officers suffered minor injuries in the clashes.
No major disruptions are expected Thursday, but a Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman says the police are better prepared this time, in the event any demonstration gets out of hand.
"We really do want to stress that this is a peaceful protest, a family-friendly protest taking place outside the convention center, while Mr. Trump is speaking to a Marcellus Shale conference taking place inside the convention center," Patross said.
