6-point deer illegally shot in Pennsylvania, prompting an investigation
A six-point buck was illegally shot in Bedford County, the Pennsylvania Game Commission said.
The agency is seeking information related to the poaching of the six-point antlered white-tailed deer that was found dead along Egolf Road in Colerain Township, Bedford County, on Sunday, June 28.
In a Facebook post on Friday, the Game Commission said that the warden's investigation suggested that a black pickup truck was driving south on Egolf Road around 1:30 a.m. when the people inside shot the deer.
The gunshot woke up a neighbor, who the Game Commission said saw the truck idling near where the carcass was found the next morning. Whoever shot the deer left it behind, authorities said.
Investigators said a suspected .22-caliber bullet was recovered from the deer's shoulder during a necropsy.
State game wardens are "actively" investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Central Dispatch at 1-833-PGC-HUNT or the Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-888-PGC-8001. Tips can also be submitted online.
According to the Game Commission's website, Operation Game Thief is a silent witness anti-poaching program that encourages people to report wildlife violations to a 24/7 toll-free hotline.
