Customer Shoots Hatchet-Wielding Attacker In Washington State 7-Eleven

BURIEN, Wash. (KDKA) -- A customer at a convenience store in Washington fatally shot a man who entered the store with a hatchet and attacked the clerk Sunday morning, CBS News reports.

The incident took place at a 7-Eleven in Burien, a suburban city south of Seattle. KIRO, a CBS affiliate in Washington, says that an unidentified man wearing a mask entered the store carrying a hatchet. Police told KIRO that customers say he didn't say anything before he began attacking people. He swung at the clerk, cutting his stomach, and another customer, who had a gun and fatally shot the attacker.

Police told KIRO the customer, a 60-year-old man from Seattle, had a valid concealed carry license, and they are calling the man a hero. According to KIRO reporter Maria Guerrero, authorities said "had this customer not shot, we might have a dead clerk right now instead of a dead bad guy."
