Water Gushes Through Ross Twp. Neighborhood After Main Breaks

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Crews were out in the cold repairing a water main break in the North Hills Friday morning.

It could have easily been a disaster with the frigid temperatures and water pouring onto a busy road in Ross Township.

But, as salt on the road tells, crews made sure things were safe as they began to work.

The break happened on Elizabeth Lane off of Siebert Road in Ross Township -- between Babcock and McKnight.

"He banged, he rang the doorbell," said Judy Brogan who's driveway was damaged. "I was sleeping soundly and he said 'look what we have.'"

Brogan was the only one who had significant damage. She said she's had some hardships and bad luck over the last year-and-a-half -- she said she just repaved her driveway.

"Since my husband passed, the hot water tank blew, I had to replace the furnace, I had to have the driveway done," she said. "It'll be don again. No choice. They're gonna have to dig it up."

After a good bit of water poured onto Simon Avenue and Siebert Road, salt trucks made their rounds trying to prevent the busy street from freezing.

Around 20 homes in the area were affected by the 6-inch break.

"I got up this morning and saw it," said Joe Rozanski. "So I hurried up and hopped in the shower before the water was shut off. So I took advantage of that part."
