Charges Dismissed Against Father In Wilkinsburg Child Endangerment Case
WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- The parents of an 11-month-old baby boy who are charged with endangering the welfare of the child appeared in court Thursday where a video presented at the hearing helped to clear the father.
"When you hear David crying and just sobbing over his son's condition, I think the video – as he said - speaks for itself," said Wendy Williams' David Bryant's attorney.
That video was shown in court at the preliminary hearing for the 24-year-old Bryant and 23-year-old Dalishia Salter. Both faces child endangerment charges after their son was found bruised and bleeding at his home on Traymore Avenue in Wilkinsburg after a domestic dispute.
Salter claims Bryant pulled a flat-screen television down on the bed, injuring the baby.
But Bryant says Salter hurt the child and sent him a text message, saying in part: "Beat the [expletive] out of your son, put him outside, take your son or I am going to kill him."
"She didn't admit anything in the text message," Blaine Jones, Salter's attorney said. "The Commonwealth offered that as her text message, and they tried to authenticate it. We didn't admit anything."
Yet, the charges of endangering the welfare of a child were dismissed against Bryant. They were held for court for Salter.
"Happy, I guess… still not over," said Bryant.
"The police, once they saw the video, the police did the right thing, and today they did the right thing, and we are the ones who introduced the video into evidence," said Williams.
Jones says his case will not be burdened by the outcome of the preliminary hearing.
"Our argument centers around the fact that what Dalashia said to the officers is consistent from the moment the officers came to the home, from the moment she was taken to the station," he said. "She was questioned for 45 minutes. Dalashia is the victim in this case."
The little boy is now in foster care.
