Beware Of Holiday Shipping Email Phishing Scam

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Words of caution from the United States Postal Inspector's office.

There is a holiday scam out there targeting your spirit of gift exchanging.

Postal Inspector Andrew Richards says unsuspecting email users are getting email notes and, "It's telling you about a package that's about to be delivered and this is delivery information."

Inspector Richards says opening the email is harmless, but opening the link it contains is anything but harmless.

"Everything is vulnerable on the computer. If you think of your computer as a house, as soon as you click on the site just think about it as opening a door."

And inside that door is anything you have stored on your computer including your financial information, bank account numbers, passwords, etc.

So here is the recommendation from the experts. If you get an email indicating it contains shipping information, DO NOT open the email. If you do, DO NOT click on the link and delete the email immediately.

If you have questions about a shipment, call the shipping company or check the tracking page online.
