School is out for the summer, bringing into nearly every home cries of "I'm bored!" Luckily for parents and kids, there is a solution to the summertime blues. Pittsburgh's summer day camps are a family friendly way to beat boredom and the heat, make new friends and try exciting activities. From hands-on animal-focused camps to interactive music and science focuses, day camps are offered throughout the region for children of all ages and with diverse interests. Check out these upcoming summer day camps and register early to ensure your spot.

Young animal lovers will find endless entertainment and education at Blue Ribbon Farm, Inc.'s Little Farmers Day Camp. This hands-on three-day camp lets your child experience a variety of farming activities, including collecting eggs, tending to a garden and helping care for lambs, chickens, baby pigs, goats, ducks and a baby calf. Pony rides, nature walks around Raccoon Creek, crafts and games are also favorite aspects of this rural day camp. While its July and early August dates are currently full, the camp's Aug. 9-11 and Aug. 16-18 dates are still accepting registration at a fee of $165 per camper. No matter what age your campers, there is a great zoo-themed camp waiting for them at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. From its Story Time at the Zoo for infants through age 3 to its Photos for Conservation camp for pre-teens, there is truly something for everyone. Songs, crafts, tours and animal encounters will fill your day as you learn more about the zoo's animals and their habitats. Because space is limited for this camp and sessions tend to fill early, registration is required and can be done via the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium's website.

At the Carnegie Science Center's Science Camps, you can keep the fun, interactive education going into the summer thanks to science-themed weeks of day camp. Children ages 4 through 12 and older will enjoy the many hands-on presentation and activities offered through the Science Center's professional and skilled educators. Explore Pittsburgh through cool crafts, go beyond the stars at the Buhl Planetarium and go inside a former Cold War submarine, to name a few. Camps begin the week of June 6. Chatham University will offer its four-day Specialty Music Camp at its Eddy Theater in Shadyside July 25-29 for students in grades 5-9. If your child is musically inclined, let them expand their gift with a deeper appreciation and understanding of music via a specific music focus. This summer's camp focuses include the Glee Please focus that enhances singing, stage presence and choreography, the School of Rock camp that caters to mastering instruments and developing cohesion with a rock band and the CHOMP focus that teaches campers to recycle objects into musical instruments through an ensemble-style setting.
