Show up by 8 p.m. to sign up for your mic time. Just want to sit back and watch the brave amateurs sink or swim? Get through the door by 9 p.m. to see the show (no cover!) and enjoy dinner at the BeerHive for under $20 with the beer and wings specials.

Latitude 40 boasts a vegas-style comedy theater that was designed exclusively for the constant stream of comedy talent that comes to this venue. Food and drinks are served throughout the massive entertainment complex and shows start at 9 p.m. At just $15 a ticket for any comedy show, Latitude 40 is going to be a go-to place for entertainment in Pittsburgh. One Friday each quarter, the Cultural District comes alive during a free showcase of all of the art and entertainment downtown Pittsburgh has to offer. Each Gallery Crawl highlights different galleries and theaters like Wood Street Galleries, Space, Harris Theater, Future Tenant and many more. The event is always free but show some patronage to the businesses who stay open late to show off their wares or culinary treats. Wear some comfortable walking shoes and get ready to hike around the 14-square-block Cultural District as you discover new art, new entertainment and downtown businesses.

Listen to jazz the way it's meant to be heard: in a small group over the course of a few hours. One of the most popular music series the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust offers, JazzLive features local and regional jazz favorites through August outside in Katz Plaza from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event moves indoors from September through May at the Backstage Bar. The event is free and open to the public. Pack a picnic in August as you sit outside at Katz Plaza and enjoy reasonably priced fare at Backstage Bar when the event moves indoors in September.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust presents another free art exhibit in its downtown gallery right on Liberty Avenue in the 943 Gallery. The gallery hosts Kurt Hentschlager's "Zee" - an audiovisual art installation that pushes the boundaries of what humans can perceive through their senses. The piece features massive projected images and immersive sound that is meant to overwhelm the senses and push viewers out of their comfort zone.
