BENTLEYVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) -- A motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and struck by a tractor trailer early Saturday morning in Washington County.

The crash happened around 12:20 a.m. on I-70 in Bentleyville.

State police say 39-year-old Charles John Chester, of Charleroi, was on his motorcycle trying to merge onto I-70 eastbound from the Bentleyville on-ramp.

Chester crossed both lanes and crashed into the concrete median. He was thrown from his bike over the median into the westbound lanes of I-70 and then struck by a tractor trailer.

According to state police, the tractor trailer continued traveling along I-70 without stopping.

Chester was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:25 a.m.

According to state police, it is unclear if Chester died before or after he was hit by the tractor trailer.

State police would like anyone who saw anything related to this incident to contact the Belle Vernon barracks.
