Barge stuck on dam in Beaver Falls, prompting bridge closures

A barge got stuck on a dam in Beaver Falls, prompting the temporary closure of two bridges on Thursday.  

The City of Beaver Falls Police Department posted a warning on Facebook shortly before noon saying the Beaver Falls/Eastvale Bridge and the Beaver Falls/New Brighton Bridge were closed. Police said there was an "issue" on the Beaver River and "possible hazards posed to the bridge." The bridges are back open now. 

PennDOT is on scene assessing the situation, police said. No other details were immediately provided. 

Video from the scene shows the barge caught up on the dam as the Beaver River rushes around it. 

While the bridges were closed, police asked people to use an alternate route until everything was resolved.
