Baldwin Man Points Rifle At Officer, Is Killed

Police in suburban Pittsburgh say an officer shot and killed a man who pointed a high-powered rifle at another officer and threatened to kill her.
Baldwin Police Chief Michael Scott says 61-year-old Edward Zevola was killed by a single gunshot. He says officers had been called to the home shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday by a report of a domestic dispute and found Zevola sitting outside on lawn furniture with a high-powered assault rifle.
Scott says Zevola told the female officer that he didn't want to shoot her but was a Vietnam veteran and would shoot her in the head rather than in her bulletproof vest. The police chief says the officers were still trying to calm Zevola down when he pointed the gun at the female officer, who was about 20 feet away, and the other officer fired.
