Hours after a pipe bomb exploded in a seaside community in New Jersey, before thousands of runners were to participate in a charity 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors, a bomb rocked the bustling New York City neighborhood of Chelsea Saturday night, September 17, 2016. The chelsea explosion injured 29 people. Investigators are working to piece together evidence in those explosions in New York and New Jersey and the discovery of other explosive devices in the past few days.
On Monday September 19, police took into custody Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, in connection with the Chelsea bombing and two other incidents. Rahmani was identified from surveillance footage near the 23rd street explosion and another undetonated device several blocks away in Manhattan.
