Zika Virus Appears To Be More Dangerous Than Previously Thought

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New research is linking the Zika Virus to more complications than previously thought.

Health experts spoke on Monday at a White House briefing and they say the virus can result in miscarriages, premature births and blindness in newborns.

Zika is also likely to be an issue throughout the entire length of pregnancy, not just the first trimester.

The CDC added that the mosquito carrying the virus is now found in 30 states, not just 12 like originally thought.

Emergency Zika funding has not yet been approved by Congress. Funds left over from the fight against Ebola will be diverted in the meantime.
