Wynnefield War Memorial Gets A Clean-Up
by Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An old war memorial in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia is getting spruced up by some neighbors who hope residents take notice.
If you're not paying attention, you might drive right past without noticing the little plot of land where the stone memorial sits at 54th and Woodbine.
Randy Watson with the Wynnefield Residents Association is leading the clean up effort.
"This has been neglected for a while. I mean, people have been coming and putting in flowers, balloons and things of that nature. But we're actually going to try to give it a little more planting and a little more oomph," said Watson.
Veteran Andy Brutus shows his American pride by digging up old roots and planting new ones.
"You can see me sweating. It is hard work, definitely. But as a veteran, I like to do what I can," he said.
Watson says this is just one of the projects he has planned and invites other residents to come help if they can.
