Woman Reading Book On Beach Struck By Truck Collecting Trash

SHIP BOTTOM, N.J. (CBS) — It's one of the worst fears of many early morning beachgoers, and that fear became a reality for a woman visiting Long Beach Island, NJ Wednesday.

Ship Bottom Police say a 38-year-old woman was reading a book on the beach near 3rd Avenue when she was struck by a truck collecting trash a little before 8 a.m.

The truck came to a stop on top of the woman, who was removed by responding medics and transported to Atlantic City Medical Center after receiving treatment at the scene.

Authorities say she is now recovering from injuries to her arm and leg.

Police say the driver of the trash truck is cooperating with the investigation.
