WHITEMARSH TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- It was quite a morning for expectant parents who were on their way to the hospital when the baby decided he just couldn't wait.
The little boy will have quite a story to tell his friends when he gets older. He was born inside his parents' Toyota Prius on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Montgomery County emergency dispatchers got the call at about 7:30 a.m.
Deputy Director of Emergency Communications John Geib says a dispatcher in training got the call and helped dad through the delivery.
"Obviously the mother was a bit uncomfortable in the car so you could hear a little bit of that in the background, but the father handled himself well and calmly," Geib explained.
Ambler EMS arrived on the scene between Fort Washington and Norristown just after the baby was born and transported mom and her newborn son to Einstein Medical Center in East Norriton where both are reportedly doing very well.
