Winter Storm Prompts Weather, Wind Chill, High Wind Advisories

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Forecasters are warning Pennsylvania residents that another blast of winter weather could bring high winds and frigid temperatures.

Winter weather advisories have been posted for much of the commonwealth with wind chill advisories or warnings for Saturday night or early Sunday into late Sunday or Monday.

High wind warnings will be in effect in many areas of eastern Pennsylvania from Saturday night until Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters expect 1 to 4 inches of snow in parts of eastern Pennsylvania, with 4 to 6 inches in the Poconos and northern Pennsylvania.

The weather service also warned of snow squalls in parts of western and central Pennsylvania that could produce brief whiteout conditions resulting in dangerous driving conditions.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reduced speeds to 45 mph on some interstates and highways.

Gusty winds, bitter cold and some snow could also create some tricky travel conditions across the Garden State.

A winter weather advisory has also been issued for New Jersey. The National Weather Service warned that anywhere from 1 to 5 inches of snow could fall across the state on Saturday, with northern areas seeing the highest amounts.

The worst of the storm was expected to be Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, when the snow will be blown about by strong winds of up to 35 mph and gusts of up to 55 mph. That also was expected to create subzero wind chills in many areas.

While the snow should leave the region by early Sunday, the strong winds are expected to continue through Monday night. Forecasters warn that wind chills could be as low as minus 20.
