PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Philadelphia's annual "Taste of the Nation" event, supporting Share Our Strength's "No Kid Hungry" campaign, takes place Sunday, April 27th, at the Hotel Monaco, on Independence Mall.
"Taste of the Nation is an annual culinary event, and it raises funds and awareness to end childhood hunger in Philadelphia and throughout the whole nation," says local Taste of the Nation co-chair Linda Huss (top photo).

Also coming up, the 17th annual "Meals From the Masters" event takes place the weekend of April 25th.
Cassandra Boyce, with Meals on Wheels Delaware (below), says their annual fundraiser culminates with a big event on Sunday, the "Celebrity Chefs' Brunch."
She explains that it calls on celebrity chefs who pitch in to help raise money by cooking.

"(We have) 2014 James Beard semifinalists, we also have a lot of 'Top Chef' contestants," Boyce tells What's Cooking. "It's the people that you're seeing on TV -- you know, people that are being highlighted in food and wine magazine or James Beard that are pushing the edge on what you can do with food."

April is National Soft Pretzel Month, and April 26th is National Soft Pretzel Day. Alissa Davis, director of marketing at Superpretzel, in Pennsauken, NJ, had some fun facts about this popular snack food.
"Pretzels have been a part of snacking culture for thousands of years. The soft pretzel dates back to 600 AD. Monks would shape the soft pretzel as 'praying hands,' and that is what they used as a reward for their students."
