Philadelphia reaches 80 degrees before storms roll in. Here's the weather forecast.
Tuesday is another beautiful March day in the Philadelphia region after a dense fog advisory expired at 10 a.m., and the city reached 80 degrees for the first time this year.
So far, the high in the city is 81 degrees — the record high is 82, set in 2016.
It's the earliest the city has reached 80 degrees since 2016, when we hit 82 on March 9, 2016. Last year, Philly's first 80-degree day was March 31. The average first 80-degree day is April 12.
NEXT big weather changes
Wednesday will again be warm with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
Wednesday morning will still be mild with a break of sun before clouds increase ahead of a cold front to the west. Showers may fire up by late afternoon, followed by the chance for gusty showers and storms in the evening.
The old record high on Wednesday is 74, set in 2021, and we will most likely tie or break it.
Philadelphia is included in the "slight" (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe weather Wednesday. As of Tuesday afternoon, the expected window for these potential severe storms is between 2 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The primary concern with the storms will be damaging winds and hail, but there is a growing concern for tornadoes as well.
By Thursday, a strong cold front crosses the area, and temperatures plummet 20-30 degrees between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon.
The front will trigger rain and a few rumbles of thunder, and we have a Marginal Level 1 risk of severe weather in our farthest western zones.
The cold air arriving with the front may be cold enough for rain changing to a wintry mix for the Poconos, Lehigh Valley and the upper Pennsylvania suburbs.
The shocking drop in temperature continues, with Friday struggling to reach 50.
