Just 15 miles from Philadelphia yet worlds away, Young People's Theatre Workshop at Eastern University's campus is set on 100 acres of gentle hills, lush lawns, wooded paths and Spanish architecture. Youngsters ages 10 to 18 spend spend six days/five nights ensconced in everything theater, from auditioning techniques and monologue preparation to set design and singing workshops. Campers stay in air-conditioned college dorms with two to three students to a room and have use of the college's state-of-the art facilities. For those looking to get away from the sizzling summer heat of the city and breathe fresh country air, Camp Dark Waters is the perfect refuge. Founded in 1928, the camp provides a caring Quaker atmosphere nestled on 15 acres along the banks of the meandering Haines Creek. The wooded setting provides a host of spiritual, educational and physical activities for approximately 100 boys and girls ages 7 to 14. Five one- and two-week camp sessions are held throughout the summer featuring arts and crafts, games, archery, soccer, outdoor cooking, canoeing, juggling and trailblazing. Campers sleep in rustic cabins, and a kitchen staff makes sure each child gets plenty to eat with three healthy meals a day and a snack at night over the campfire.
