Top Bars With Local Brews In Philadelphia

Philadelphia is a great craft beer city that brews a lot of its own beer, and fortunately for us, most bars and restaurants in the city carry and support the region's finest. If you're looking to try a taste of the best seasonal or year-round brews from our area, Philly's bars and restaurants won't disappoint. With that, here are some of the top places in Philly to enjoy a locally brewed beer.
McGillin's Olde Ale House

McGillin's has been around since 1860, making it Philadelphia's longest continuously running tavern and one of the best Irish pubs in the United States. For its 150th Anniversary, Stoudts Brewing created a beer just for McGillin's, the McGillin's 1860 IPA. Stoudts also brews two house beers for McGillin's, called McGillin's Real Ale and McGillin's Genuine Lager. Along with its own beer, McGillin's also has an assortment of microbrews from the area including beers from Philadelphia Brewing, Yards and Yuengling as well as other beers from Stoudts.

This Northern Liberties bar and restaurant serves only local brews and uses only locally grown food for its ever-changing menu, which is updated on a chalkboard every day. Standard Tap offers only drafts from the best breweries in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, like Dogfish Head, Dock Street Brewing Company and Philadelphia Brewing Company along with around 15 other local breweries. Every day, this neighborhood gastropub has more than 20 beers on tap and two cask ales.

South Philadelphia Tap Room

The best time to go to the South Philadelphia Tap Room is during happy hour on Monday through Friday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., when all local drafts are half-off. The South Philly Tap Room has brews from Manayunk Brewing Company, Lancaster Brewing Company and Philadelphia Brewing Company, along with many more from the region. The local beer rotation is always changing, and along with its array of local beers, the Tap Room also offers an international selection of more than 100 bottles.

Johnny Brenda's

Johnny Brenda's is a restaurant, bar and music venue that showcases local flavor through its food and drinks. Like Standard Tap, it's sister restaurant, Johnny Brenda's only serves local beers and only uses locally grown food. There are 10 beers on tap here, including Flying Fish, Sly Fox, Weyerbacher and Yards, as well as two hand pumps for cask ales and both year-round and seasonal drafts.

Local 44 is a neighborhood bar and restaurant located in West Philadelphia. It focuses on serving up craft beers, including drafts from Manayunk Brewing Company, Yards Brewing Company and Victory Brewing Company. During happy hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, all local drafts are only $3. Attached to Local 44 is the Bottle Shop, which sells over 500 bottles and offers a nice variety of microbrews from around the region. Drinking is allowed while perusing the shop; try a glass of the cask ale while you look around.
