Temple Nation Celebrates AAC Championship

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Temple Football picked up their first conference title in five decades Saturday afternoon in Andover, MD, beating 19th ranked Navy 34-10 in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game.

Gathered in Morgan Hall on Temple's North Philadelphia campus, students watched the Owls cruise to a win on a giant projector screen. And for students like Freshman Joe, the team's performance was a pleasant surprise.

"I thought it was great watching it," he said.  "They really performed well, the whole team. The defense played like they have all year. I've been saying they have one of the best defenses in the country. They just kind of dominated the game today. It was great to watch."

And for seniors like Dave, the win was all the sweeter after the Owls came up just short last year, and he said the man running the show deserves a lot of credit.

"First I'd like to thank Matt Rhule for just doing a great job with this program. Just great job on the season, great effort today, and just best of luck in the Bowl Game they get lucky enough to participate in."

In addition to being the first AAC championship in school history, this is the first time Temple has back to back ten win seasons.
