Study Shows Cases Of Diabetes Rising
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Diabetes is a major health problem in this country. It is estimated that 10% of Americans have diabetes, and the cost associated with the condition is about $174 billion per year. But what about the future? How many people are going to develop diabetes?
The rate of diabetes is increasing in those who are younger. According to the latest study, by 2050, the number of Americans with diabetes may rise as high as 30%.
This is largely due to the fact that we have an aging population. Type 2 diabetes, the form of diabetes that occurs as we get older and is associated with weight, gain is the predominant problem. We can control the growth of diabetes through public education about diet and exercise.
