Study: Many First-Time Parents Unhappy
GERMANY (CBS) -- Having a baby can potentially impact the happiness of first-time parents in a bad way, according to a new study which blames social isolation.
Researchers say it's because parents' friends assume they are happy and tend to stay away, figuring the new parents are tired and busy.
"Before having children, potential parents do not know firsthand what is involved with parenting or how it will be for them," researchers say.
The study also suggests that is the opposite of what happens in other life-altering events, like divorce or the death of partner, when friends come around more often to offer support.
