Sports Illustrated Hosts Celebration To Honor Montgomery County Swimmer Voted SportsKid Of The Year

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sports Illustrated hosted a celebration at Lincoln Financial Field Wednesday to honor the Penn Charter swimmer who was voted the magazine's "SportsKid of the Year."

"I feel like my story is just a regular story."

At 6-foot-8, 15-year-old Reese Whitley stands above the rest. Literally. And he's already setting big goals for himself.

"Olympic trials is coming up this June. I just want to swim as fast as I can."

His coach Crystal Coleman says he's just beginning to scratch the surface of his ability in the pool, but more importantly, he's a great teammate and student.

"He is an amazing kid. He's so much fun, such a hard worker. He is just as focused on his academics as he is on swimming."

Reese's father Carl is very proud, but says there's always room for improvement.

"He doesn't do a whole lot of house work."

Ok, maybe he is just an ordinary kid with extraordinary abilities.
