South Jersey Shopping Center Searching for a Savior
Tenants at a South Jersey shopping center are hoping a new owner can bring new life.
KYW's Mike DeNardo reports the Garden State Pavilions on Route 70 in Cherry Hill opened in 1999 as an active retail location.
But a few years ago when the Home Depot moved next door to Garden State Park, retailers started disappearing, says Jason Ravitz, VP for retail operations at Shoprite Supermarkets -- one of the few stores left in the center:
"To me, the shopping center has been quote-unquote 'blighted' since then."
A foreclosure auction was planned for next Tuesday.
Ravitz hoped the new owners, whoever they turn out to be, can revitalize the property:
"This has been a draining process over the last five years. A lot of people said they were going to do X, Y and Z a lot of times. And nobody ever came through."
