South Jersey Man Witness To Postseason Baseball History — Twice
HADDONFIELD, NJ (CBS) -- More than 40,000 people were on hand Wednesday night at the Phillies' ballpark to witness Roy Halladay's historic no-hitter. But only one of those fans can claim he witnessed the only other no-hitter in postseason play -- back in 1956.
Mike Fiore, 66, owns Caravelli Brothers Barber Shop in Haddonfield, NJ. Back in 1956, he went with his dad and four others to Yankee Stadium, and saw Don Larsen's perfect game:
"I was a Brooklyn Dodger fan in 1956. So when I left the game, I was happy to see a perfect game, however I was sick that my team lost."
Wednesday night, he didn't have that problem.
So what put him there? Well, Mike's son got a pair of tickets as a gift and took his dad. Talk about getting lucky.
And if that's not enough, one of Mike's customers is Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel. And yeah, they talk baseball when he stops in for a trim. Imagine what the conversation will be like on his next visit.
