South Jersey Agent Comments On Possible NFL Lockout

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The countdown toward an NFL lockout continues but the clock hands have been pushed back for a second.

On Thursday, the owners and players agreed to give themselves an extra 24 hours to resolve their differences. On Friday afternoon they extended the extension by a week.

That's a hopeful sign, according to South Jersey agent Jerrold Colton, whose clients include the Eagles' David Akers.

"The recent ruling regarding the network money that the owners had taken as insurance seemed to maybe change the landscape a little and make it a little more of a balanced playing field in this negotiation and give the owners a little bit more desire to potentially resolve it at this point," Colton said.

If the two sides are still at loggerheads when newest deadline arrives, free agents won't have anywhere to go and spring workouts would likely be canceled.

Colton believes a lockout would probably be a long one and include a players union gambit to decertify, which would lead to a court battle.
