Son of 'Little Nicky' Scarfo Busted In Bank Scheme
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) -- The son of longtime Philadelphia crime boss "Little Nicky" Scarfo is among 13 people indicted in Camden federal court on charges they took over a Texas-based financial firm and skimmed out over $12 million.
Nicky Scarfo Jr. is a reputed member of the Lucchesi crime family who, along with associate Salvatore Pelullo, took over FirstPlus Financial Group and allegedly bled the company dry in the course of just one year.
US attorney Paul Fishman says five lawyers and an accountant, working for Pelullo and Scarfo, helped to keep the SEC and law enforcement in the dark. Those six are also indicted, along with Scarfo's wife and four others.
Officials say the skimmed funds went for everything from jewerly to real estate to expensive cars. And, says Fishman (right):
"Together, Scarfo and Pelullo bought an 850-thousand-dollar yacht that they named, ironically, Priceless."
That yacht is now in drydock.
Fishman says this alleged scheme shows that the mob is moving into white-collar and cyber crime, although a few people were alleged threatened the old-fashioned way and several weapons were seized from homes and the boat.
Scarfo is the son of imprisoned former Philadelphia-area mob boss Nicodemo Scarfo Sr. -- better known as "Little Nicky."
