Light rain and slushy snow to impact the Philadelphia region Sunday night into Monday
Sunday won't be quite as warm or as sunny as Saturday, so a light coat or hoodie will ne needed as temperatures slowly rise from freezing into the low 40s.
Today will also stay mostly cloudy. You won't need the sunglasses, but do carry an umbrella if you are out late this afternoon and evening. Rain showers are possible after 3 p.m. and tonight, those rain showers will change to slushy snow as temperatures drop to the low and mid-30s.
A coating to 2 inches of slushy snow is possible from the I-95 corridor north and west, with mainly rain and a wintry mix expected across South Jersey and Delaware.
NEXT big change
A NEXT Weather Alert has been issued for Sunday evening as a large storm system slides past to our south.
Temperatures will drop from the low 40s in the afternoon to the low and mid-30s later in the evening. That is cold enough for wet, sloppy snow.
I-95 once again will be the main dividing line between snow and rain.
- South Jersey, the Shore, and Delaware: Rain and minor mixing with snow. Less than 1 inch of slushy snow if any.
- I-95 corridor and Pennsylvania counties: Rain changing to slushy snow tonight. A coating up to 2 inches.
The best chance for accumulations is on grass, elevated surfaces, walkways, and on existing snow.
Some roads in upper Bucks, upper Montgomery and Berks counties and the Lehigh Valley and Poconos could see a coating to several inches.
Any of this new, slushy snow will melt on Monday as temperatures head above freezing.
Sick of Winter?
The second big change is a springlike pattern this week with temperatures in the low 50s by Tuesday and hovering either side of 50 for the remainder of the week.
Overnight lows will be above freezing overnight this week, so plan on plenty of melting.
Meteorological Spring is in 14 days on March 1, and Astronomical Spring aka the Vernal Equinox is in 34 days on March 20.
