Snow Gives NJ Residents Extra Week To Apply For Property Tax Relief Programs
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New Jersey residents who have put off applying for two property tax relief programs can thank the weekend snowstorm that they haven't missed the boat.
The already-extended deadline for the Homestead Benefit and the Senior Freeze programs was to have been Monday but Andy Pratt, of the State Department of the Treasury, says it's been moved again.
"Governor Christie's moving it to November 7th because of the snowstorm. Some people are without power and they're unable to file online or to complete their applications because of that and some people are still unable to travel safely in the state."
The average Homestead credit is $475 and the Senior Freeze average is more than $1100, so this is more than lunch money for a lot of people.
