'Sexploitation' Takes Center Stage in Film Festival

An unusual Philadelphia movie-making competition is about to begin and one entry will be more unusual still.

KYW's John Ostapkovich reports that the Project Twenty1 Film Festival presents a challenge: make a 10 minute or less movie in 21 days beginning Sunday. A secret must-have requirement won't even be revealed until Saturday but Michael Mercandante (holding camera in photo) of Team CrackerHammer has a basic game plan, a nod to sexploitation films:

"Sexploitation is all about the tease, all without showing anything. Modern movies, even modern prime time television, shows a lot more than a sexploitation film ever did."

And this will be shot with dialog dubbed-in later, an homage to sexploitation director Doris Wishman:

"It's actually come to be known as the Wishman technique in film schools and it's shooting the listener rather than the speaker so she didn't have to sync up as much sound."

This film and all the rest will be screened in early October.
