3 Separate Accidents On Northeast Extension

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The cause of three separate accidents that slowed traffic on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Thursday morning remain under investigation.

The accidents happened at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of the Extension between the Quakertown and Lansdale exits.

According to Turnpike officials, one accident that involved at least five cars happened near mile marker 37. The multi-car crash happened in the left lane.

Turnpike officials said there were two separate accidents that occurred in the same area.

Approximately eight to 10 vehicles were involved in the three accidents, Turnpike officials said.

So far, there are no reports of any serious injuries.

The accidents were fully cleared at about 10 a.m., but residual back-ups remained for some time.

As a result of the accidents, traffic at one point along the Extension was backed up for at least six miles.

The accidents remain under investigation.
