Senator Casey Meets With Oil Refinery Works To Discuss Plant Closures
LINWOOD, Pa. (AP) — Sen. Bob Casey is calling for a legislative hearing to see how energy prices would be affected by the possible closure of three Philadelphia-area oil refineries.
The Democratic lawmaker from Pennsylvania met with refinery workers in Linwood on Friday. He says he is worried the closures will cause a spike in home heating costs.
The Delaware County Daily Times reports ConocoPhillips closed a refinery in Trainer last month.
Sunoco is expected to shutter its plant in Marcus Hook this month. Another Sunoco refinery in Philadelphia is expected to close by July if a new buyer isn't found.
Casey requested the hearing in a letter sent Friday to New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman, the chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
Casey says the three facilities employ 2,600 workers.
