Ronald McDonald House Holds Annual Plane Pull Fundraiser
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia's Ronald McDonald House, in conjunction with several other sponsors, is conducting its third annual "Plane Pull" at Phil
Atlantic Aviation. Over a dozen teams are taking part.
The whole purpose of the event, which has its beginnings in Chicago, is to raise money for families staying at Philadelphia's Ronald McDonald House.
"We have teams of 20 members from companies, civic groups, and friends and families that are coming out to pull a plane," says spokeswoman Susan Campbell.
"All the funds raised support the families staying at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. We have over 2,700 family stays each year, and all of the funds help us run the house and support the families."
She says the goal was to raise more than $40,000 and that was accomplished.
"They're pulling a private, commercial 30-seat plane for 50 feet. It weighs about 74,000 pounds."
Teams consist of area fire departments, police, various companies and community groups. The winner of all this fun is Philadelphia's Ronald McDonald House.
