Report: The Phillies Scouted Donald Trump While In High School

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies have been criticized of late for their scouting and talent evaluation. Donald Trump has been criticized of late for, well, a lot of things.

Maybe Donald Trump as a Philadelphia Phillie would have made perfect sense?

According to the Rolling Stone, the Phillies actually scouted Trump way back in the day, when Trump was the star first baseman of his varsity baseball team.

"He was good-hit and good-field: We had scouts from the Phillies to watch him, but he wanted to go to college and make real money," former instructor Col. Ted Dobias said via RollingStone.com.

"I was captain of the baseball team," Trump told MTV in 2010. "I was supposed to be a professional baseball player. Fortunately, I decided to go into real estate instead. I played first base and I also played catcher. I was a good hitter. I just had a good time."

Instead, Trump went on to attend the Bronx's Fordham University, but ironically transferred to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Now, Trump leads the Republican presidential polls with 24-percent support, according to CNN.
