Report: More Americans Staying In Than Going Out

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Would you call yourself a homebody? Well, you're not alone. A new report shows that staying in is actually in vogue.

The analysis, published by securities economists from Wells Fargo, finds that restaurants and watering holes alike have experienced a slowdown that started this past winter and has continued through the summer months.

According to the findings, there's been a 0.2 percent decline in sales at food and drinking establishments since December, compared to an increase of nearly 3 percent at food and beverage stores where people purchase items like beer and wine to enjoy in the comfort of their home or backyard.

It appears that people are still giving their business to food trucks though since the "Special Food Services" category has seen a 1.8 percent uptick since last year.

No word on the reasoning behind these new shifts.

However, it will be interesting to see if the pattern continues, specifically in Pennsylvania with the recent changes to the state's liquor laws, allowing consumers to purchase wine at pizza shops that already sell take-out beer.
