Report: Fewer Violent Crimes In Philadelphia Last Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The number of violent crimes in Philadelphia last year was the lowest since 1979.

The decline was first reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Police say the encouraging statistics are a step in the right direction.

They credit the increased use of technology and patrol strategies as effective tools.

Curbing gun violence remains one of the police department's top priorities.
