Prisoner Escapes During Transport

Philadelphia police were hunting for a prisoner who escpaed from the back of a police van, Saturday afternooon.

KYW's Jim Melwert reports that around 2:30pm, three prisoners were being taken to Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility.

But when the police van stopped at a light at Frankford and Cottman Avenues, three men forced the door opened and made a break for it.

Two of those men were re-captured.  But one, 22-year-old Omar Roane, got away.

Police lieutenant Frank Vanore says Roane's a dangerous man:

"He was in custody for murder, he has a couple of very distinct tattoos.  One, 'RIP Rob' on his right hand, and 'YHM' on the left side of his neck."

He also has two tear-drops on his left cheek.

Roaneis charged with the murder of 17-year-old Kyree Young in Southwest Philadelphia last June.

It's not clear how the men were able to force the doors open, but police were asking anyone with any information on Roane's whereabouts to call 9-1-1.
