Police Seek Philadelphia Man For No-Show Contracting
MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - Authorities in Montgomery County are looking for a Philadelphia contractor whom they say took money from area residents to install solar panels on their homes and then never completed -- or in some cases even started -- the work.
There's an outstanding arrest warrant for Michael McKinley, but Montgomery Township police say they haven't been able to find him.
Police say McKinley, 40, contracted with customers who were looking to "go green" but then made off with their green.
Montgomery County detective Ed Davies says McKinley is now facing felony theft charges in connection with four victims in Montgomery County.
"Things obviously went south for his business, and he started taking large deposits for jobs from customers and either he never delivered any materials, never started a job, or just took the money and never produced anything," says Davies.
McKinley ran Solaris Energy and was licensed and approved by the state to install the solar equipment.
Davies believes there are other people out there who gave him money but never had the work done. Davies has been in contact with McKinley's family members but still hasn't been able to track him down.
