PHILADLEPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police and city officials are warning the public about a man who has been allegedly posing as an inspector for the Department of Licenses and Inspections.
Police and L&I officials say a man approached residents at three properties in North Philadelphia and identified himself as an L&I inspector. Then he allegedly told the residents the city was going to demolish their property, but did not present any identification.
The alleged impersonator is described as an African-American male, in his mid 50s to 60 years old, standing 5-foot-7 inches tall with a partial goatee, and was wearing a reflective vest and a yellow hardhat. He was driving a dark green Volvo station wagon with PA tags, according to officials.
The city says residents should call 9-1-1 if they are approached by this man. L&I says all of its inspectors wear clothing with the Department's logo and present proper ID when checking properties. L&I says residents can call 215-686-2400 to confirm if a property is going to be demolished.
