Police Investigate Suspicious Fire At First Friends Day Care In New Britain
NEW BRITAIN, Pa. (CBS) - Police Bucks County are investigating a "suspicious" fire that occurred at a daycare center over the weekend.
Owner and Director Dawn Stear got the call Saturday night saying that the playground at First Friends Daycare center in New Britain was ablaze. The playground took three months and $10,000 to renovate, a significant amount coming from fundraising. Stear says it was hard to tell the children, but one of her teachers used it as a learning experience to teach them about the dangers of playing with fire.
"They were devastated. She took them down so they could visually see it because they really couldn't wrap their little brains around the fact that it was gone."
Stear is mostly frustrated by the fact that the children eagerly waited three months to only be able to use the playground for two weeks. The fire marshal and police are still investigating the cause. Stear believes that an accelerator had to be used on the rubbery black mulch because the majority of the structure was plastic. Police hope that the neighbors will report any suspicious activity around the daycare center.
