Driver Sought In Deadly Island Avenue Hit-And-Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the driver wanted in connection with a deadly hit-and-run Monday night (See Previous Story).

Police have identified the victim as 60-year-old Leslie Smith of Pontiac Avenue.

At about 6:15 p.m., police say Smith was attempting to cross Island Avenue at the intersection of Lindbergh Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Island Avenue.

According to investigators, the striking vehicle did not stop and fled the scene, continuing southbound toward the airport.

The vehicle is described as a red possibly two door vehicle, possibly with a black top, missing a passenger side wheel cover.

Police say Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
