Police: Man Said Child Was Taken In Carjacking So Officers Could "Work A Little Harder"

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)—Police in Philadelphia scoured the area for a missing 4-year-old boy believed to be in the back seat of the stolen car, only to find that the person who reported him missing made up the entire story.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 4600 block of Sydenham Street.

Police say a 22-year-old man who was delivering pizza was reportedly robbed at gunpoint by a suspect who then stole his vehicle.

The man, identified as Marcus Fletcher, initially stated that his 4-year-old nephew was in his care and in the backseat of the car at the time of the incident.

After a frantic search, police were able to find the vehicle, but the child was not inside.

Police say after further questioning, Fletcher  admitted that he made up the entire story and there was never a missing boy.

Officials say Fletcher told police that he was not satisfied with police efforts during a previous incident that he reported and that he wanted to see the police work a little harder.

Authorities say he is charged with filing false reports.
