Phils Win Despite a Blown Save by Lidge
After a blown save by Brad Lidge sent Phils-Reds game 2 into extra innings, the Phils bats would knock in 3 runs in the 10th, and beat the Reds 9-6. Starter Joe Blanton went 7 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. Enter Brad Lidge, who entered the save situation with a 6-3 lead. After recording 2 easy outs, Lidge would walk Brandon Phillips. Next batter Orlando Cabrera hits a single, setting the stage for Joey Votto who hits a 3 run blast knotting the game at 6.
As the 1st batter in the 10th, Ryan Howard got it going with a leadoff double. Jayson Werth would draw a walk. Next batter, Raul Ibanez, who was 0-4, knocks in the go ahead run with an rbi double scoring Howard. Pinch Hitter Ben Fransico then hits an rbi single scoring Werth. Wilson Valdez would bunt into a fielder's choice, making it 9-6 Phils, which became the final. JC Romero the 1, 2, 3 save in the 10th.
The 7 and 8 spot in the lineup accounted for all the Phils runs thru the 1st 9 innings. Brian Schneider 3-4, with a 3 run homerun. Wilson Valdez 2-4, 4 rbi, including a 3 run jack.
